Permaculture Design

In depth and far beyond a concept - formal, detailed and beautiful designs to enhance your life

Permaculture integrates nature and residents to live sustainably for both the Earth and residents. It is a way to live by, appreciating and understanding the opportunities around you, wherever you are in life and whatever stage of life you are in.

Permaculture can be thought of as a set of guidelines to help you live life more sustainably, with catching and storing energy within your system as a key part. With three main ethics at the heart of the principles (Care for the Earth; Care for People and Fair Share), it was originally formally written about in the 1970s but it is important to acknowledge that the principles and ethics have been used word wide by indigenous populations throughout time.

Keep in mind they are guidelines, not rules that need to be followed. There is no right or wrong way to apply permaculture – with the same set of guidelines everyone will design and find different ways of executing ideas – all of which are still correct. They way you interpret the ethics and principles will be influenced by intersectional privilege and with what is most important to yourself, which may also change over time.

Formal permaculture designs can help people see and understand how these principles and ideas can be applied to their own systems, in ways they may not have thought of. Throughout the process working with residents and family is a crucial step.
