About

Edible Haven

Penny Newbury

Permaculture Garden Designer & Principal Consultant

Growing up in South Gippsland on a property where wildlife rained supreme, I will always be thankful to my parents for nurturing and inspiring my love of nature and native animals. Although I didn’t realise it at the time, I was constantly absorbing information from nature. I can also thank my Grandfather’s love for his vegetable garden for teaching me the rewards of edible plantings.

I’ve been heavily into creating my own edible garden for over 20 years, with a particular interest in the ornamental edible landscape not just vegetables in rows. Function and beauty right at your doorstep. My love of wildlife and desire to be sustainable led me to complete a Certificate in Permaculture Design and I have also completed initial horticulture training to help expand my knowledge and understanding.

I have worked in communication training and audiology for almost 20 years, creating and running my clinic (Ivy Audiology) in Brunswick, Melbourne over the past 5 years. Over this time I have seen the comfort people receive from entering a room full of plants, and often talk far longer with clients about gardening than audiology!

My emphasis for Edible Haven services is working with what is suited for you and those who use your garden. I want you to have beautiful spaces that are sustainable both for the Earth and yourself. If things are too complicated or difficult they will be hard to maintain. I also have a passion in teaching my clients about soil health and polyculture techniques or any other specific topics of interest they may have.

Edible Haven services are not just about creating, but educating to enable you to get the most out of your garden and reap the rewards for the years to come.
